The latest draw was held at the Annual Meeting of Provincial Grand Lodge, April 22nd at Bradford. The next , there are two per year, will take place at the meeting of the Carl Whitehead Lodge of Royal Ark Mariner No. 110, which hosts the Annual Assembly of the Provincial Grand Royal Ark Mariners, at Tapton Hall, Saturday 14th October.
A number of the ‘Lucky People’ were present on the day to receive their good fortune in hand; the remainder had their cheques posted to them the Club’s Coordinator. There were 3 main prizes, of £250 each and these were gratefully received, and of course will be faithfully applied, Worshipful Brothers Robert Boyd, Haywra No. 525, Richard Bleasedale , White Rose No. 1067 and David Russell, Bronte No. 535. In addition there were 4 prizes of £100 and 5 of £50, a total Prize Fund of £1400. The same amount goes to the Provincial Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons of West Yorkshire. The basis of the Fund is 50% to prize Fund and 50% to Province.
Tickets cost £10 each entitling the bearer to enter both draws, the total available per annum at present being £5600, indicating 560 tickets but less than 300 Mark Master Masons. This reflects only 27% of the Brethren being involved, a similar percentage to those who contribute standing order to the Cleeves and Whitehead Trust, yes Brethren, likely to be that same people. Therefore, to those of you who are now considering the possibility of buying some tickets, reflect upon what you might win but, more importantly, the financial help you will bring to YOUR Province and, ultimately Charity, it is a no brainer.
The Fund was originally established to purchase the Anniversary Button, thereafter the refurbishment of Provincial furnishing and regalia, the Provincial Sword and Banner having been restored. The focus has now changed to the Sesquicentennial Celebrations in 2021 and thereafter to the 2023 Festival Committee formed under the Chairmanship of the Deputy Provincial Grand Master, Worshipful Brother Richard Boswell Puttrell.
Finally, a salutary story from the Lodge of Eland , No. 493 whose last meeting was held on Tuesday, 25th April. Present was Worshipful Brother Keith Robinson, Chairman of the 250 Club and Secretary of the Lodge. Whilst addressing the Brethren regarding the Fund, he advised of the winners from the last draw which included one lucky Mark Mason who collected 2, yes TWO, prizes of £100. Who was this you may ask, none other than one of our Past Provincial Grand Masters, Right Worshipful Brother Brian Morris Batty. Upon being congratulated for his good fortune, R. W. Bro. Brian commented that this only reduced his losses!!; which were then increased as it was his birthday and he bought all present the first drink at the bar. Many thanks R. W Bro. Brian, continued success in the autumn draw.
Worshipful Brother Duncan Smith P.G.S.D.
