Once again 51 Mark Master Masons attended the Annual General Meeting of the South Yorkshire Association of Installed Masters which took place on Wednesday, 2 September, at Tapton Masonic Hall. It was a particular pleasure to see two Mark Masons present, some encouragement that the message is getting through that all Mark Masons are welcome, not only Installed Masters. Additionally, representatives from both the Leeds and District and the Huddersfield, Halifax & Districts Installed Masters Associations also attended.
The Meeting was formally opened the President, W.Bro. Jim Stanley and, after the usual formalities, sadly including a number in the obituary report, he gave his address. W. Bro. Jim visited widely throughout his year, including Lodges in Sister Associations and their A.G.M’s. He thanked the Brethren of the Association in accompanying him on his ‘missionary work’ and encouraged all to give the same support to his successor. W.Bro. Mike Nowell then gave his Secretary’s report with particular reference to Worshipful Brother David Marcus who, as Assistant Secretary has been a rock for the Association in compiling the Annual Diary. He is now to take a well earned retirement and the thanks of all go to David, and his very supportive wife Margaret, for their sterling efforts over many years.
The President then invested his successor wishing him a very happy and successful year in Office, the new Team being
President W.Bro. Jim Reynolds, Escafeld Lodge
Senior Vice President, W.Bro. Alec Geddes, Vulcan Lodge
Junior Vice President, W.Bro. Matthew Brelsford, Aire Ferry Lodge
W.Bro.Mike Nowell, upon a proposition was duly confirmed as Secretary for another year, with W.Bro.John Cooper as Treasurer.
In his address, the Provincial Grand Master, Right Worshipful Brother James Steggles, G.M.R.A.C. began congratulating W.Bro.James Reynolds, the President, and the rest of the team upon their appointments, with a particular reference to the Secretary, W.Bro. Michael Nowell for all his efforts and he wished them all a happy and successful year. He also warmly thanked W.Bro. Jim Stanley for all he had accomplished during his stewardship, mindful of the fact that he also had Provincial and Charity responsibilities, well done W.Bro. Jim (but his golf has suffered!). In reminding the meeting that the Annual Meeting of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons, West Yorkshire will take place at Bradford on Saturday, 2 April 2016, he requested that as many Brethren be encouraged to attend as possible and to that end, as Masters in the Chair would probably be in attendance, perhaps they could each bring along one of their Junior Brethren, excellent idea. Experience suggests that once they have been present, they then return.
Finally, he informed the meeting that Lodges as well as individuals could be Mark benevolent Fund Gold Award Patrons and that one Lodge has achieved this distinction, more detail to come forward in due course. This would greatly assist the West Yorkshire Mark Benevolent Fund Festival, to be launched in 2016, culminating in 2023. Any ideas for fund raising efforts would be well received, personal donations are to continue to be passed to the Cleeves and Whitehead Trust where gift aid can be claimed, though this does not apply to the Festival which is not a registered Charity
