Peace Lodge of Royal Ark Mariners sets sail on another voyage of discovery

Following an excellent Ceremony of Installation held at Uppermill Masonic Hall on Friday, 27th January 207, the Crew of the good ship, Peace Royal Ark mariners No. 681 are now on their way.

The Brethren had come together on the Quayside, together with a goodly number of shipmates from other Royal Ark Mariner vessels, notably the Official representative of the Provincial Grand Master, Right Worshipful Brother James Steggles G.M.R.A.C., Worshipful Brother John Fred Clough, Past Assistant Provincial Grand Master. W. Bro. John is the present Skipper of the good ship Claro Royal Ark Mariners No. 525 moored at Wetherwhere, at his Installation he was pleased to welcome Brother Patrick, an interesting fellow, for more detail see report in news section filed on 14th December, I will say no more.

The business was initially in the hands of the outgoing Skipper, Worshipful Commander Peter Dransfield, now living in Gloucestershire and therefore unlikely to be seen much in our parts in the future. Whilst congratulating W. Bro. Peter upon his work promotion that brought about the move, he is a character who has worked very hard over the years for his Freemasonry, notably both the Mark and Royal Ark Mariner degrees, and he will be missed.

The first business was in the hands of Worshipful Brother Colin Bullock who delivered a very sympathetic and moving tribute to our sadly departed Brother Colin Robins., Bro. Colin passed to the Grand Lodge above on the 16th September 2016, a happy, cheerful man who conveyed those feelings to all met, a sad loss.

The Installation of Brother Alan Corbridge then took place in fine fashion with W. Bro. Peter ably assisted his Officers. Notably these were W. Bro. Steven Spooner and W. Bro. David Ogden, the latter steering W. Bro. Corbridge to his Post on the Quarter Deck. Other contributors of note were W. Bro. David Leach with the explanation of the Tools and address to the Worshipful Commander, W. Bro. Bev Heywood the history and the Keystone Collaret. The piece de resistance however was when W. Bro. Bev. delivered the Exposition, the best testimony I can pay to his performance is that it reminded me of Right Worshipful Brother George Henry Philip Birch, no more to be said.

For the record, the Lodge is to have set meeting dates and a Notice of Motion was given that Peace Royal Ark Mariners No. 681 meet on the third Friday of January, the Installation date, May and December. This will have to go process through the usual channels and all will be advised when the new dates apply. In the meantime, their next meeting is on Friday, the 30th June, come and join them.

The Festive Board was of the high standard we have become use to in these rooms, particularly the Soup which was a meal in itself. W. Bro. John Fred Clough in his response to the toast to the Province, ably proposed W. Bro. David leach, he worked very hard that night did W. Bro. David, drew attention to the Festival which will conclude in 2023. He emphasised that it is the wish of our Provincial Grand Master that all Lodges become Grand patron Gold Award lodges which will then qualify the Province. Innovative fund raising events are sought and to this end there will be a Barge Run in 2018. The Province is taking part in the M. B. F. Charity Walk which follows the route of the ‘Princess of Wales Memorial Walk’, covering seven miles through four of the Royal Parks of London. It is suggested that donations are made electronically through the online giving portal at Please give generously but it is not expected that all follow the example of one anonymous Brother who gave £2,500.

Finally the new Worshipful Commander, Worshipful Brother Alan Corbridge expressed his delight at attaining the Chair of this fine Lodge and that he was anticipating a happy, but different year, we will learn what he meant in due course.

Meanwhile, Smile, be Happy and enjoy your Mark and Ark Mariner Masonry.

Worshipful Brother Duncan Smith P.R.A.M.G.R.
