New Provincial Grand Master for Mark in West Yorkshire

For the past 5 years the Province has been most ably led R.W.Bro. James Bennett Truswell, so it came as a surprise to most when he announced his retirement at the beginning of the year.

V.W.Bro. James Steggles, P.G.J.O. was subsequently appointed the Most Worshipful Grand Master to become our new Provincial Grand Master and the scene was set for his Installation on Saturday 17th November. Well over 300 Brethren attended an Especial Meeting at Bradford Grammar School to witness the Installation. Provincial Grand Lodge was opened R.W.Bro. George Henry Philip Birch who, as Presiding Officer, proved once again that he had lost none of his ritual skills and quick wit.

A full team from Grand Lodge were present, led The Most Worshipful Pro Grand Master Benjamin Addy who went on to install our new Provincial Grand Master to the acclaim of all present.

R.W.Bro. James Steggles is the 15th Provincial Grand Master to rule our Province in its 141 year history. He has previously served the Province as Provincial Grand Secretary and more recently for almost 4 years as Deputy Provincial Grand Master. He takes over a Province which is in extremely good heart and it is delightful to note that no less than four of our Past Provincial Grand Masters are still active in its proceedings.

R.W.Bro. James Steggles was pleased to appoint and install V.W.Bro. Robert Corfield, P.G.J.O., Past Assistant Provincial Grand Master, as Deputy Provincial Grand Master and re-appoint W.Bro. John Fred Clough, P.G.J.D. as Assistant Provincial Grand Master, an Office he had previously held for almost 4 years.

At the Luncheon which followed the Installation Ceremony the Brethren were delighted to welcome R.W.Bro. John Kendall Clayton, Provincial Grand Master for our Craft Province of Yorkshire West Riding. R.W.Bro. Clayton is not a member of our Order but his mere presence showed his support for the Mark in his Province, and it was pleasing to hear our new Provincial Grand Master reassure R.W.Bro. Clayton of our continued allegiance to the Craft.

The Brethren departed in peace and harmony, happy in the knowledge that in R.W.Bro. James Steggles we have yet another Provincial Grand Master who will take our Mark Province forward for the benefit of all future Mark Master Masons in West Yorkshire.
