A goodly number of Mark Master Masons, not all from the designated Association, visited the Lodge of Truth No. 137 on Thursday, the 20th of March. This was a special day for the President of the Huddersfield Halifax & Districts Installed Masters Association, Worshipful Brother Richard G Brooke. P.Prov.G.J.W. in that he was visiting his own Lodge, a proud moment.
The Lodge was opened in due form the Worshipful Master, Worshipful Brother Graham Daniel. This was followed a demonstration of the Advancement Ceremony the Brethren, involving some mature seasoned ritualists who did not disappoint together with the assistance of some visitors. I would particularly congratulate W.Bro. Edwin Swannick, P.Prov.G.S.D., Senior Deacon. He managed to keep in check a knowledgeable ‘Candidate’ the name of W.Bro. Peter Dransfield, the current Master of Dartmouth Lodge of Mark Master Masons No. 545. W.Bro. Peter, quite rightly takes his responsibilities of representing his Lodge at Association Visits and Installations very seriously. He is not only very visible in the Province of West Yorkshire but also of that in East Lancashire. He told me that to date he has acted as a Candidate 15 times, now he knows what should be done.
W.Bro. Neville C. Giles. P.Prov.G.S.W. gave the eulogy for W.Bro. Peter Bywater, P.Prov.G.S.W., who had sadly passed way on the 2nd March. W.Bro. Peter was a very well known figure in Masonic circles in the Huddersfield area having been initiated in 1971. He held the position of Organist in a number of Lodges and, I know personally, was a most affable gentle man, he will be sorely missed.
W.Bro. Richard Brooke gave the report upon the Associations activities stressing that a Sunday Lunch is being held at Greenhead on Sunday, the 13th April, and he hoped that this would receive the support of the Associations Lodges but particularly, Truth No. 137.
A most pleasant Festive Board was enjoyed with the Toasts, managed in the capable hands of the Director of Ceremonies, W.Bro. John K. Bramley, P.Prov.G.J.W. A lovely Mark Masonic evening and it was a delight that the Junior Vice President of the Bradford and Districts Association, W.Bro. Clive Hawkins P.Prov.G.S.D was present. W.Bro. Clive is a Past Master of Bronte Lodge of Mark Master Masons no. 553 and had some distance to travel.
Finally a reminder to all that W.Bro. Graham Daniel will, on the 20th November, all being well, Install his Father, Bro. John Daniel as Master of the Truth Lodge of Mark Master Masons No. 137. It is somewhat unusual to see a Son install his Father, put it in your diary now; I look forward to seeing you there.
W. Bro. Duncan Smith P.G.S.D.
