Gothic Lodge of Mark Master Masons No.1018. One of those Special Mark Masonic evenings

Thursday, 2 December and a goodly number turned up at Swinton Masonic Hall for the meeting which included an arranged visit the South Yorkshire Association of Installed Masters whose President is none other than Worshipful Brother Jim Stanley, Past Master of Gothic!  The evening was further enhanced the first visit to the Lodge, in his new capacity, the Deputy Provincial Grand Master, Worshipful Brother Richard Puttrell.

The Lodge was opened in due form the Worshipful Master , Worshipful Brother Alan Gilby, after which a ballot was taken to confirm Worshipful Brother Stephen Meadows as a rejoining Member, this was favourable. W.Bro. Stephen had, due to ill health, found it necessary to resign his Masonic commitments and it was therefore excellent news for the Lodge that he was now recovered and able to return. Another ballot was then taken which equally was found favourable, this being to advance Brother Ian Sunderland, a Past Master of St George’s Craft Lodge.

The advancement ceremony was very competently led W.Bro. Alan assisted his hard working Officers, particularly the Senior Deacon, Bro. Neal Park, and the Inner Guard, Bro. Alan Bartrop, both of whom performed admirably; and an excellent rendition of the Signs and Secrets W.Bro. Charles Lindsay. Mention has to be made of the Acting Organist, W.Bro. Mark Rothman from Vulcan Lodge No.1191 who accompanied the Chaplain, W.Bro. George Crofts, whose dulcet tones delivered the Chants.

There being no other nominations, the Senior Warden, Bro. John Blundell was Declared Master Elect for the ensuing year with Bro. Keith Thomas continuing as Treasurer.

The Festive board was a superb four course offering, the centrepiece a delicious serving of Roast Beef and Yorkshire pudding, all well received. The final comment rests with V.W.Bro. Derek Cope who responded on behalf of the Visitors and emphasised not only the quality of the Ceremony that had been witnessed in the Temple but also the atmosphere and bonhomie downstairs, the very epitome of Mark Master Masonry.  Hear, hear Derek.
