A wonderfully convivial meeting, warm Masonic greetings, particularly from the Key Clan and brotherly love abounding, that is the heart of Mark Masonry. This took place at Masonic Hall, Barnolsdwick on Tuesday, 16th October where , upon arrival, the Worshipful Master, Worshipful Brother David T Key, gave all a Mark Hug, fortunately I escaped with ribs intact.
W.Bro. David opened the Lodge in due form and, the initial business dealt with, upon a report, Very Worshipful Brother Richard Boswell Puttrell, Past Deputy Provincial Grand Master was admitted, accompanied Worshipful Brother Alan Corbridge, Elected Member of the Charity Committee under the guidance of the Prov. A.G.D.C., Worshipful Brother Jim Gray. All eyes now turned to the D.C., Worshipful Brother Keith Berry who presented Worshipful Brother Stephen Walker, the Master Elect, back again after two successive years in 2015 and 2016, who was well aware of his responsibilities, which he executed admirably, whereupon he was placed in the Chair of Gilkirke Lodge of MMM No. 812. W,Bro, David, a shining example o the precepts of this Order, then concluded his work and the Addresses were delivered in fine form as follows,
Worshipful Master, W.Bro. Derek Thulborn
Wardens, W.Bro. Geoff Askew
Overseers, W.Bro. Simon Gazzard and
Brethren, V.W.Bro. Richard Boswell Puttrell.
Very good news for the Lodge when, under a.o.b., a proposition for a new member was unveiled, this will ensure that next time around they will have at least four Brethren on the ladder, good to see the sterling efforts of the committed Past Masters of Gilkirke bearing fruit, well deserved.
The festive Board was received in fine style when the Toast to the Province was submitted Key the Younger, Bro, David A Key, who had already experienced the commitments of Provincial Rank having ferried his Father around during his year as an acting Overseer. V.W.Bro.Richard thanked him for his generous Toast and congratulated W.Bro.Stephen on his third tour of Office. He then reminded all that the A.G.M. of the Province of West Yorkshire is to be held on the 13th April 2019, note for your diaries. He then announced that a new Lodge, to be known as the Provincial Grand Stewards Lodge is to be established in 2019. As its name indicates it will be for those who have held the Office of Provincial Grand Steward, the Senior Officers will be selected the PGM who will then select the Junior Warden in future years, it will have two meetings per annum.. Full details will be sent out before the year end, if you qualify and are interested , put your name forward. Other Notes for your diaries;
Musical evenings at Pontefract Masonic Hall with W. Bro. John Whitworth 3thNov.
Almoners Luncheon, Tapton Hall, Monday 5th November,
Gala Ball, Bankfield Hotel Shipley, Saturday, 1st December 2018
Annual Carol Service that will again be held at Brighouse Methodist Church on Sunday, 9th December.
W.Bro, Derek dealt with the Toast to the Charities and W.Bro.Alan emphasised that the Cleeves and Whitehead remains in good heart and tha tfor as long as we continue to support it, it will support us. A gentle reminder that standing order contributions are no higher in percentage terms, therefore lower in actual numbers, than they were ten years ago when the writer of this piece was Chairman of Trustees, Nothing to be proud of in that Brethren for an organisation that prides itself on its Charitable objectives.
The remaining Toasts, safely despatched, the assembled company went to their beds after a Mark Masonic evening well spent.
Smile, Be happy, You are a Mark Master Mason.
Worshipful Brother Duncan Smith P.G.S.D.
