Copley Lodge of Mark Master Masons No. 111

A most friendly throng wound there way to the Masonic Hall at the Allerton on the 15th March 2022. The visitors, of which there were a goodly number, were warmly welcomed and, all in place, the Lodge was opened in good form the Worshipful Master, Worshipful Brother Lance Johnson.

The Dispensation authorising the meeting was read, minutes of their previous meeting confirmed and approved. At this juncture, the Deputy Provincial Director of Ceremonies, Worshipful Brother Mark Holland was admitted and advised that the Provincial Grand Junior Warden, Worshipful Brother Ian Truswell, accompanied Worshipful Brother Alan Corbridge, Elected Member of the Charity Executive requested admission. This was promptly confirmed and they took their places and received appropriate salutations.

The main event followed with W.Bro. Lance being proclaimed as Worshipful Master in a most professional manner the Lodge Director of Ceremonies, Worshipful Brother David Wadeley, totally in charge and relaxed throughout, or so he seemed. W. Bro Lance was saluted all present and was reminded of his duties and responsibilities and then returned to the Chair. The Officers were then thanked for all their effort and commitment and reminded that it would have to continue as they were all to remain in their present roles for another Year.

The Summons then beckoned again, a proposal for a new Member, excellent; a report upon the Leeds and District Installed Masters Association, sadly this included notice of the death of the President, W.Bro David Lees, well known and liked throughout the Province. Worshipful Brother Trevor Dickinson, Charity Stewards report mentioned the donations made during the Sesquicentenary. £1000 to be on behalf of Elmete RAM and some revenue raised with a Thai Night social £315 the proceeds to be split between Elmete RAM and Pudsey Ram.

A delicious Festive Board with a substantial piece of Roast chicken saw us all replete and ready to receive imparted wisdom from the Toasts. This began in earnest when the Senior Warden, Worshipful Brother Stuart Burrows submitted that to the Province, not cringingly ingratiating as some can be, but appropriately humble for which he will, no doubt, be rewarded in due course. In response W, Bro Ian congratulated W.Bro. Lance in taking the Chair for a further year and wished him, and the Lodge, continued success.

A reminder that the Annual Meeting of Provincial Grand Lodge will take place at Bradford Grammar School on Saturday, 23rd April. This is of course, the Provincial Grand Masters Lodge, bear in mind how much time he devotes to his duties, time for us to reciprocate and attend. Another date for your diaries, the Provincial Social committee is to hold a Hoe Down on Saturday 25th June. The venue is at Ringstone Hill Farm, Brierely, which is near Barnsley. Weather permitting, a must.

The Toast to the Charities was ably despatched W.Bro. Trevor and equally responded W.Bro. Alan who reminded all to occasionally review their Charitable donations but only to give what you can afford. W.Bro. John Dewanz was responsible for speaking highly in respect of the efforts of the Worshipful Master, W.Bro. Lance throughout the pandemic and keeping the Lodge in a positive position. This was duly acknowledged W.Bro lance who was confidently looking forward to the future’ Finally the Visitors Toast was given in fine form W.Bro. John Hendry but what a reply W.Bro. Barrie Fothergill, a rendering of “Bless this House” with appropriate references to Freemasonry, truly different and very well received.

A wonderful evening that all who took part can be justifiably proud. Magic of the Mark at work again.
