ON THEIR WAY
Saturday, 20th July and it is a sunny morning in Brighouse when a Llew Jones coach from LLanrwst , North Wales arrives at 12 noon to collect the Guests for the 2013 holiday. This year there are 47 Brethren, relatives and friends who were joined W.Bro. Philip and Mrs. Judith Mann and Mrs. Frieda Buxton, our highly competent, committed and hardworking Welfare Officers. The holiday would not proceed without them brethren, and we are truly indebted to these ‘jewels‘ in the Crown of the Cleeves and Whitehead Trust.
THEY ARE THERE
After settling in to their new surroundings and, for some first time visitors to Llandudno that included the splendor of the Promenade and Pier, trips had been organised which were enjoyed all those who took part, other than one day when the air conditioning on one of the coaches was not up to scratch.
Three outings took place, the first being a day on the beautiful island of Anglesey visiting the world renowned village of Llanfair.P.G., for the full spelling and meaning thereof see the photo below. Some time was then spent in the main town of the island, Beaumaris
Next a day was spent visiting Porthmadog , one of the gateways to the Lleyn Peninsula. This was joined with a trip to Blaenau Ffestiniog and the LLechwedd slate quarries, the highlight of which is to visit one of the cavernous areas in which the miners hewed slate in the glow of a candle.
Finally, a place not to be missed on the North Wales itinerary, Betwys-y-Coed, the home of the Swallow Falls and a cafe, which when offered the opportunity to have 50 covers, refused! They must have been enjoying a very profitable period, unlike 2012.
NOW THEY ARE BACK
Saturday, the 27th July, and the coach returns to Brighouse where it unloads it’s precious cargo who, in the words of the Provincial Almoner, W.Bro Alec Steele, with smiles on their faces expressed their delight at the holiday and their very grateful thanks to the Welfare Officers for all that they had done.
A final memory, it transpires that one day, a ‘Flight’ of three mobility scooters, piloted ex bomber Command Officers went on a sortie to Llandudno Town Centre. They all returned safe and well but reports confirm that there were numerous traffic hold ups due to this mission!!!
For your diaries, next year’s holiday, again at the Four Oaks Hotel, Llandudno will take place from 28th June to the 5th July 2014.
