Charity at Work, Claro Lodge of Royal Ark Mariner No.525

The Harrogate & District (Inc. Ripon) Society for the Blind has been supporting people with a visual impairment in the local community, for over 90 years. They have a Vision Support Centre on East Parade in Harrogate, an Eye Clinic Liaison Officer is available to offer support and advice in the clinic waiting rooms, a Visiting Service, for those who are rurally isolated or are unable to attend one of the clubs, a telephone befriending Service and satellite clubs in Ripon and Pateley Bridge. Additionally they are able to offer a friendly ear, practical support and advice.

Social activities are arranged in and outside of the centre and opportunities are made available for members to share experiences. One local person in particular, who for many years has benefited from the services provided, is Mrs Inge Little. Inge’s daughter, Karen Kidd, who’s late Father Ken was a founder of Claro Royal Ark Mariner Lodge No.525, understands how vitally important the society has been in supporting her mother.

In recognition of this, she kindly ran the London Marathon donating half the proceeds of her total amount raised to the Society. Cognisant of the close connection, one of the biggest contributors towards Karen sponsorships was The Claro Lodge of Royal Ark Mariner No. 525. Worshipful Brother George Wise, the current Worshipful Commander and Worshipful Brother Bob Fraser-Platt the Almoner presented the cheque for £250 to Mrs. Inge Little and Tanya Stimpson at the centre in Harrogate.

Royal Ark Mariner Masonry very much at work in the community.
