The Cedar Court Hotel, Bradford was the venue for the recent Almoners’ Lunch at which a total of 143 guests were present, supported 77 helpers, which included Almoners, Charity Stewards and other Mark Brethren and their wives, who had helped in transporting the guests to the event.
We were particularly pleased to have as guests a contingent of nine residents and two helpers from Connaught Court, who thoroughly enjoyed the day with us.
Another highlight of the day was the chance for those present to celebrate the 90th birthday of W. Bro. George A. Andrew, of Knaresborough Castle Lodge No. 768.
The Almoners’ Lunches are so called as it is essentially the Almoners’ and Charity Stewards of the 44 Mark and 21 Royal Ark Mariner Lodges who invite the older members and widows of former members to attend these events, and organize the transport for the invitees.
The lunches are sponsored the Trustees of the Cleeves and Whitehead Trust, which is the West Yorkshire Mark Master Masons’ Charity.
The organizers of the Lunches are grateful for the regular attendance of members of the St John Ambulance, who make sure that help is available to any attendees who may require it.
The next two Lunches are at Tapton Hall, Sheffield on 5th November 2012, and at Cedar Court Hotel, Bradford on 8th April 2013.
