A very special night at Copley Lodge of M.M.M. No. 111

Whilst I know that all Mark Masonic meetings are special nights, this one was a bit more so featuring the presentation of a Certificate of 50 years membership to Worshipful Brother Malcolm Mackown. As befits an event of such magnitude the great and good were present, in fact thirty one visitors of which four were Masters in the Chair, a delight to see.

Worshipful Master Richard Hirst, having duly dealt with opening procedures  upon a report, the Provincial Director of Ceremonies, Worshipful Brother John Vause was admitted and informed the Worshipful Master that Right Worshipful Brother James Steggles,G.M.R.A.C, the Provincial Grand Master was without and demanded admission. The Worshipful Master being content to accede, the Director of Ceremonies then formed an  escort and the R.W.Bro. Jim was admitted accompanied the Deputy Provincial Grand Master, Worshipful Brother Alan Oldfield and the Assistant Provincial Grand Master, Worshipful Brother Trevor Bolton

A ballot then took place for Brother Jeffrey Demaine, a member of the Beaumont Lodge of M.M.M. No.1523 as a joining member and Kevin Patrick Campbell. a member of Allerton Lodge No: 3047 as a member. The ballot was taken jointly and was unanimously in favour of both applicants. Bro. Jeffrey Demaine was then brought into the Lodge and presented with the Book of Constitution, the Provincial By-laws and the By-laws of Copley Mark Lodge. Also a book  of Copley ritual, of which W.Bro.Richard hoped he would make an immediate study as, at their next meeting on 18th September, he would, no doubt find himself filling an Office.

Attention then turned to the main event, the presentation of a 50th Certificate to W. Bro. Malcolm W. Mackown in the hands of the A.P.G.M.,Trevor Bolton. W.Bro. Malcolm’s Masonic career was covered firstly but this involved a reference to his working history, that of being a Baker. Copley has some form in this regard, not only W.Bro.Malcolm but also W.Bros.Keith Robson, Bob Winterflood and the present W.M., W.Bro.Richard have baking in the blood, sadly no crumbs of comfort here as it appears that there has never been a cake, bun , nay not even a crumb produced for the Lodge! W.Bro,Trevor presented him with his Grand Lodge Certificate which was read the Provincial Grand Secretary, Worshipful Brother Fraser McPherson. The Provincial Grand Lodge Certificate, after being read out the Deputy Provincial Grand Secretary, Brother Warren Marsden, was then presented W.Bro. Bob Winterflood, accompanied some appropriate anecdotes.

Dates for your diaries. On May 29th, at Morley Masonic Hall, there will be the Consecration of  the RugFootball Lodge of Royal Ark Mariners, attached to the RugFootball Mark Lodge in East Lancashire. Due to the size of the building, attendance is limited and will be invitation only. However, no such restrictions apply at Tapton Hall where a new Provincial Banner will be Dedicated at an Especial Meeting of Britannia Lodge on the 21st June, one of the six Lodges which formed our Province, what an excellent evening that proposes to be.

On 25th July 2018, Escafeld Lodge of Mark Master Masons No. 1139 will be hosting the first Meeting of the Combined Sheffield Mark Lodges. The ceremony will start at 6.15pm and it is hoped that as many members of the Sheffield lodges, their guests and many other members of the Province will be able to attend.   Welcome Lodge of Royal Ark Mariners will then celebrate its Centenary in October, Monday the 8th. and the year will be rounded off with the Annual Carol Service on the 10th December.

After all the appropriate Toasts, safely despatched, the assembled company went to their beds after a Mark Masonic evening well spent.  Smile, Be happy, You are a Mark Master Mason.
