Thursday 30 January 2014 at the Masonic Hall, Whitcliffe Road, Cleckheaton and time for Old York TI RAM to install their new Commander.
With the temple enjoying a goodly number of Royal Ark Mariners, including Worshipful Brother Ian Wolstencoft on his debut representing the Provincial grand Master, the Lodge was opened in due form the Worshipful Commander Paul Jordan. He then proceeded to install his successor, Bro. Howard Shoesmith, the whole meeting being conducted with great dignity. The newly installed commander then appointed his Officers with all the progressive Offices being taken Brethren – which bodes well for the future of this fine old Ark Mariner Lodge. This was emphasised when propositions were made for two Joining Members and one new Candidate for elevation. A good year ahead for Old York TI I think and worthy of a visit. I commend that to you all.
When the Agenda reached the point of ‘any other business’, there was a surprise for all present. W.Bro.Fredrick Arthur Smith R.A.M.G.R. Past Deputy Provincial Grand Master of N & E Yorkshire took the floor. He has been a member of the Lodge for over 45 years and in appreciation of a long and very happy association, presented the Worshipful Commander, Howard Shoesmith with a magnificent set of Working Tools. I feel that we must record that even at the age of 92, W.Bro. Fred still readily agrees to do any ritual, frequently putting others to shame. Long may it continue!
The Festive Board was to everyone’s taste and well received. In his response, W.Bro. Wolstencroft R.A.M.G.R., congratulated the Worshipful Commander on his preferment and pointed out that one of his duties would be to represent his Lodge at the Provincial Grand Lodge Meeting of Mark Master Masons at Bradford in April when he would be part of the Royal Ark Mariner delegation. His attention was also drawn to the Installed Commanders Lodge, the Carl Whitehead Lodge of Royal Ark Mariners No .110, for which he now qualified to be a member, incidentally, when he becomes a member, he will join W.Bro. Fred Smith R.A.M.G.R. Finally, he stressed that it was the Provincial Grand Master’s wish that we now build closer ties with the Craft and other orders.
