Dartmouth Lodge of Mark Master Masons No. 545, Tuesday, 10th October and the Installation of the Senior Warden, Brother Ken Wootton, this in the hands of the Installing and current Worshipful Master, Worshipful Brother Trevor Kinvig.
The usual formalities despatched, the newly appointed Deputy Provincial Grand Master, Worshipful Brother Alan Oldfield was admitted accompanied Worshipful Brother Ian Yates, Representative of the Charity committee. This was the first official duty of W. Bro Alan since his appointment and investiture, an emotional moment for him, but he did have the support of a number of visitors from his own Lodge, Fearnley Lodge of M.M.M. No. 58.
The Installation Ceremony itself was a triumph for W.Bro.Trevor who not only found the right level of gravitas and sincerity but was virtually flawless in ritual whilst placing Bro.Ken in the Chair of this fine, old Lodge. He was supported other Worshipful Brethren, particularly the Director of Ceremonies, Worshipful Brother John Madigan, who with the other numerous duties he undertakes, is to be congratulated, another Pig race next year!! The Addresses were confidently delivered, that to the Worshipful Master, W.Bro.Richard Brooke, a regular visitor, Wardens W.Bro. Alan Ball, Overseers, yes that man again, W.Bro. John Madigan and, that to the Brethren the Dep. Prov. Grand Master, W.Bro.Alan Oldfield. It was disappointing to note the resignation of W.Bro.John Barlow who, due to health and age, is reducing his Masonic commitments; we all trust he keeps well. Also a big surprise in the appointment of Secretary, W.Bro. Alan Hines relinquishing the reins to W.Bro. Alan Knott, W.Bro. Alan must have some holidays planned.
The remaining items of business were then dealt with but not before Worshipful Brother Keith Robinson took the floor. In his capacity as Chairman of the 250 Club, he told the Brethren that , at the last draw which took place at the Provincial Assembly of Royal Ark Mariners, the Lodge had won £100, very welcome, perhaps a thought for all, including Ladies if they are interested.
The Festive Board having been devoured, the Dep. Prov.G.M., responding to the Toast to the Province, reminded the Brethren that the Annual Meeting of the West Yorkshire Provincial Grand lodge of Mark Master Masons will take place on Saturday, 7th April 2018 at Bradford Grammar School. We are all invited the P.G.M. to his Lodge and courtesy dictates that as many of us as possible attend. W.M’s should consider asking their Wardens to join them and some Junior Brethren for the experience, put it in your diaries now. In addition, the Christmas Fayre will be held at Greenhead Masonic Hall on Sunday, 26th November and the Annual Carol service at Brighouse Methodist Church, Sunday 10th December.
In similar vein, W.Bro.Ian Yates, responding to the Charities Toast said that the Cleeves and Whitehead Trust is in good heart, despite the Festival impact upon income. In that respect, Holiday has been arranged for July 2018 but at the Inn on the Prom, St Anne’s, a new venue and Notices have already been sent out for the next Almoners Lunch on Monday, 6th November. The Charity remains concerned that all Brethren in need are not been identified and ask al Brethren, not just Almoners for in this regard we are all Almoners, to be vigilant.
Wow, another very rewarding Mark Masonic occasion.
Worshipful Brother Duncan Smith P.G.S.D.
