A great Installation night at Thorne Lodge No. 1004

Thursday 3rd March 2022 and the great and the good gathered for what was to be a fabulous evening.

The Lodge opened, and all regular Lodge business dealt with. A report was then given and V.W. Bro. John Vause the Assistant Provincial Grand Master together with W.Bro. Alan Corbridge Representative of the Charity Committee entered. This was of course V.W.Bro. Johns first Installation as Assistant Provincial Grand Master, showing little nervesas you would expect! He was greeted and offered the gavel the Worshipful Master Johnathan Armstrong. V.W.Bro.John suitably responded and quickly passed the gavel back. Salutations were then appropriately given.

W.Bro. Ronald Oldfield was then installed as Worshipful Master W.Bro. Johnathan in a relaxed and sincere manner. All this all under the watchful eye of W.Bro. David Spivey Director of Ceremonies.

All other Lodge business was quickly despatched and the Brethren retired to a wonderful Festive Board of Pate, Roast Chicken, Apple Crumble followed Cheese and Biscuits.

The toast to the Province was given W.Bro. Colin Middleton who said all the right things about the industrious Provincial Officers and, the miles they travelled to offer help and support. In his response V.W.Bro.John acknowledged this and thanked him for the many compliments. He went on to cover our festival finale in 2023 at the Harrogate Conference Centre, the help needed to get all our R.A.M. Lodges to Gold Patron award and the many other events that were to take place such as the Provincial Hoe-down. He mentioned a major raffle that was planned and promoted the Sesquicentenary Jewel and 150th book charting the history of our wonderful Province. The major event this year for fund raising was to be the MC2 challenge cycle around the Province – 450 miles over 5 days! Good luck.

The next main thing to focus on was to support our Provincial Grand Master at the A.G.M. to be held at Bradford Grammar School 23rd April 2022. Not far away. Brethren, please book in and support if you can. Finally thanking W.Bro.Charles Lindsay the Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies for his help this evening.

In his response V.W.Bro.John acknowledged this and thanked him for the many compliments. He went on to cover our Festival finale in 2023 at The Harrogate Conference Centre, the help needed to get all our R.A.M. Lodge to Gold Patron award and the many events that were to take place such as the Provincial Hoe-down, a major raffle that was planned and the Sesquicentenary Jewel and 150th book charting the history of our wonderful Province.  The major event this year for fund raising was to be the MC2 challenge cycle around the Province- 450 miles over 5 days! Good luck.

W.Bro. David Spencer gave the toast to The Mark Benevolent Fund and the Cleeves and Whitehead Trust and thanked them for all they do. In his response W.Bro. Alan thanked everyone for their continued support and asked them to continue in the wonderful manner they already did and, to look to support further if possible. The help provided the Trust was always quick and efficient and not only supported Masons and their families but other local and national non-Masonic organisations such as a recent very generation donation to a local scout group. He closed thanking both the Lodge Almoner and Charity Steward for all the work they do.

The toast to the Worshipful Master W.Bro. Ron used words such as loyal, decent, patriotic and a ‘doer and a shaker’ to describe him. In his response he used similar words to describe the Installing Master W.Bro. Johnathan saying what an asset to Masonry in general and to this Lodge he was.

A wonderful evening. The Brethren all saying how fantastic it was to be back. All making their way home happy and contented.
